. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Dick Allen, who tied the score with a double in the sixth inning, smashed a homer in the eighth to give the Phillies a 4-3 victory over the Mets. Larry Christenson, Phillies' starting pitcher, hit a two-run homer off Tom Seaver in the second, but the Mets picked up a run in the third and went ahead in the fourth when Rusty Staub walked and Ed Kranepool hit for the circuit.

The Mets kept the lead until the sixth when Jay Johnstone singled, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Allen's double. Skip Lockwood, who relieved Seaver, was the victim of Allen's homer in the eighth, while Tug McGraw, who pitched three hitless innings in relief for the Phillies, picked up the victory. Dave Cash became the first player in the majors with 200 hits this season with two singles to bring his total to 201. [The Sporting News]
