An unearned run in the fourth inning gave the Orioles a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox in the season opener for both clubs. Lee May reached first on shortstop Rick Burleson's throwing error, moved to third on Bobby Grich's single to center and scored when Fred Lynn's throw to Rico Petrocelli, trying to get the runner at the bag, skipped past the third baseman for an error.
