Newly acquired outfielder Don Baylor belted a homer in his Oakland debut as the A's began their campaign with a 5-2 verdict over the Angels. Baylor's blast tied the score in the fourth inning and was followed by Joe Rudi's single, Sal Bando's double and Gene Tenace's infield out, which gave the A's the go-ahead run. Mike Torrez, who came to the A's from Baltimore with Baylor, hurled the first five frames and received credit for the victory. [The Sporting News]
