Off to the worst start in their history, the Angels suffered their fourth straight defeat, losing to the Royals, 7-4, before a Kansas City opening-night crowd of 26,516. Andy Hassler, who started for the Angels, drew his 12th straight defeat since beating the Royals, 12-1, last April 29. The Royals erupted for four runs in the third inning, two scoring on a single by Hal McRae, and put the game away when Amos Otis tripled to drive in another pair in the seventh.
