The slugging of Ed Herrmann, who hit two homers, enabled the Angels to edge the Royals, 7-6, for their first victory of the season. Herrmann started with a solo shot in the second, but the Angels trailed, 5-3, going into the eighth when pinch-hitter Bill Melton drove in one run with a single and Herrmann followed with a three-run smash.
