After playing two seasons at Shea Stadium, where they shared quarters with the Mets, the Yankees returned to rebuilt Yankee Stadium and proceeded to wallop the Twins, 11-4, before an enthusiastic crowd of 52,613, The turnout was largest for a Yankee home opener in 30 years. The Twins got off to a 4-0 lead before the Yankees went on a rally that reached a climax with six runs in the eighth inning, including two-run singles by Mickey Rivers and Chris Chambliss.
