While with the Tigers, Mickey Lolich beat the Cardinals in the seventh game of the 1968 World Series, but the lefthander had different luck making his first appearance in Busch Stadium with the Mets. After leading, 4-2, Lolich was kayoed in the sixth inning and wound up with a 7-4 defeat. Lolich had two hits and scored twice.

However in the sixth, Vic Harris doubled and Reggie Smith homered to tie the score. When Mike Anderson doubled, Lolich left the game in favor of Skip Lockwood, who was greeted with a single by pinch-hitter Ron Fairly, driving in pinch-runner Lee Richard. Don Kessinger then doubled to knock in Fairly. [The Sporting News]
