Mike Schmidt hit his seventh homer in a stretch of four games, one short of Ralph Kiner's major league record, as the Phillies defeated the Pirates, 3-0. Tom Underwood and Tug McGraw combined to pitch the shutout, the first suffered by the Pirates this season. Schmidt's bases-empty homer came in the eighth inning. [The Sporting News]
