Although departing after six innings, Fred Norman received credit for his third straight victory when the Reds defeated the Padres, 5-4. The Reds scored all their runs in the third, sending 11 men to the plate.

Don Gullett, making his first appearance of the season, relieved Norman in the seventh, but then had to give way to Rawly Eastwick in the following frame after giving up a walk, a single to Dave Winfield and throwing two balls to Doug Rader. [The Sporting News]
