A pair of five-run innings carried Philadelphia to a 10-5 victory over the Braves. The first outburst came in the third inning at the expense of Andy Messersmith and included the first grand-slam homer of Greg Luzinski's major league career.

Messersmith escaped defeat when the Braves rallied to tie the score, but Elias Sosa failed in relief in the Phillies' second five-run outburst in the eighth. Luzinski doubled and Mike Schmidt hit his eighth homer in six games to break a 5-5 tie. Larry Bowa drove in two runs with a single to cap the rally. [The Sporting News]
