The Rangers rallied in the last three innings, capping their scoring with an unearned run, to defeat the Tigers, 5-4. The Rangers' first two runs came on a homer by Tom Grieve in the seventh, marking the first round-tripper off Tiger pitching this season.

After tying the score at 3-3 in the eighth, the Rangers loaded the bases in the ninth. Gene Clines singled, driving in Dave Moates, and when Rusty Staub overran the ball, Roy Smalley also scored what proved to be the winning run because Ben Oglivie hit a pinch-homer in the Tigers' half of the final frame.
