After failing to hold a 4-1 lead, the Dodgers scored an unearned run in the 10th inning and defeated the Cubs, 5-4. Henry Cruz hit his first major league homer, connecting with two men on base, to pace the Dodgers to their early advantage.

After the Cubs came back to tie the score, Ted Sizemore was safe on an error by Andre Thornton in the 10th. John Hale sacrificed. The Cubs then walked Steve Garvey intentionally, hoping to set up a double play, but Ron Cey wrecked the move with a single which drove in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
