The Pirates were able to snap their four-game losing streak when John Candelaria pitched a two-hitter and shut out the Giants, 3-0. The Pirates scored all their runs in the fifth inning, the first coming on a homer by Willie Stargell. Dave Parker and Richie Hebner followed with singles and both scored when Frank Taveras hit an apparent triple, but the batter was called out on appeal for failing to tag second base. He received credit for two RBIs, but the hit went into the box score as just a single. [The Sporting News]
