Manager Red Schoendienst's shakeup of his lineup produced results when the Cardinals defeated the Padres, 3-1. Willie Crawford, who went to right field while Reggie Smith moved to third base, knocked in two of the Cards' runs with a sacrifice fly in the second inning and a homer in the fifth. Ron Fairly, who played first base, walked later in the fifth and counted the Cards' final run on a double by Don Kessinger. [The Sporting News]
