. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Dave Wehrmeister, rookie righthander from Hawaii (Pacific Coast), suffered his third straight defeat when the Cubs beat the Padres, 4-2. Manny Trillo knocked in the Cubs' first run with a single in the second inning. After Hector Torres homered in the Padres' half, the Cubs went ahead again in the third with singles by Rick Monday, Jose Cardenal and Bill Madlock. Two runs in the fifth on a double by Cardenal, single by Jerry Morales, a late throw to the plate on a grounder by Andre Thornton, a wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Trillo then clinched the decision for the Cubs.
