Turning on the power with two triples and a homer in the fifth inning, the Yankees enabled Catfish Hunter to defeat the Royals, 5-3. Fred Stanley and Mickey Rivers whacked triples and Thurman Munson followed with a homer to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead. The Royals picked up a run in their half of the fifth frame, but Rivers singled in the ninth to drive home an insurance tally for the Yankees. [The Sporting News]
