Taking advantage of an error, the Indians broke a close game apart and breezed to a 12-3 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, but the Angels came back behind the hitting of Bobby Bonds and Jerry Remy to win the nightcap, 5-4. With the score tied, 3-3, the Indians loaded the bases in the fifth inning of the lidlifter and counted two runs when Bruce Bochte threw wildly to the plate after fielding a grounder by Rick Manning. Duane Kuiper squeezed in a run and Buddy Bell homered to make the inning good for four runs. Rico Carty added two more with a circuit clout in the seventh.

In the nightcap, Bonds drove in two runs for the Angels with a single in the first inning and Remy accounted for a pair with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and single in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
