Making his first appearance in a Baltimore uniform, Reggie Jackson went hitless in two official trips but drove in a run to help beat his former Oakland team, 4-3, after the Athletics had defeated the Orioles in the opening game of a doubleheader, 6-2. Vida Blue pitched for the A's in the lidlifter and ended a personal string of three losses. Billy Williams and Joe Rudi homered.

In the nightcap, the A's held a 3-2 lead until the sixth inning when Tony Muser singled, Lee May doubled and Jackson grounded out to drive in the tying run. Ken Singleton then hit a sacrifice fly for the winning tally. [The Sporting News]
