Although wild, walking seven batters, Tom Seaver was able to receive credit for the victory when the Mets defeated the Reds, 5-3. Fred Norman, the Reds' starter, also was wild, giving up two runs on four walks and an infield out in the second inning. In the next frame, Joe Torre singled and Dave Kingman hit his 10th homer to bring his RBI total to 23 in 23 games for the Mets' winning blow.

Seaver was removed with one out in the seventh after loading the bases on a single by Pete Rose and two passes. But Skip Lockwood came in and struck out both Johnny Bench and Mike Lum to end the threat. [The Sporting News]
