A homer by Amos Otis with two men on base climaxed a five-run outburst in the second inning and sent the Royals on their way to a 7-5 victory over the Red Sox. Buck Martinez doubled to drive in the Royals' first two runs and, after Jim Wohlford was hit by a pitch, Otis smashed his homer.
