Obtained from the Giants, Pete Falcone gained his first victory in a St. Louis uniform when the Cardinals shut out the Braves, 4-0. Falcone allowed only four hits in 7 1/3 innings before being smacked on the left leg by a line drive. Although the lefty wanted to continue, manager Red Schoendienst removed him from the game. Mike Proly and Al Hrabosky completed the shutout of the Braves, who suffered their ninth straight loss. [The Sporting News]
