An infield hit by Ralph Garr in the fourth inning kept Ray Bare from racking up a possible no-hitter when the Tigers' righthander shut out the White Sox, 5-0. Pitching in 44-degree weather, Bare faced only 28 batters.

He walked two, but picked one off first base and the other was erased on a double play. Second baseman Gary Sutherland made a diving stop of Garr's grounder in the fourth but had no chance to get the runner at first. [The Sporting News]
