Homers by Bobby Bonds and Bill Melton on successive pitches in the eighth inning powered the Angels to a 5-4 victory and kept the Indians from setting an A. L. record for most consecutive games won in one opponent's park. The Indians had beaten the Angels 13 times in a row at Anaheim Stadium since July 17, 1973. Bonds' homer in the eighth followed a single by Jerry Remy and walk to Rusty Torres to tie the score. Melton then connected on Jackie Brown's next pitch to provide the Angels' winning run.
