The Padres, who had lost to Tom Seaver eight straight times since May 6, 1972, finally ended ace the righthander's mastery by defeating the Mets, 4-0. Brent Strom, one-time property of the Mets, pitched a two-hitter and Dave Winfield hit a two-run homer to mark the Padres' victory over Seaver, only their second in 20 career decisions against the Mets' three-time Cy Young Award winner.
