A pre-game replacement for Fred Lynn, who injured his shoulder in practice, Rick Miller drove in three runs and scored two to pace the Red Sox to a 7-5 victory over the Indians. Miller singled in the third to send in the first run and tripled along with Carl Yastrzemski when the Red Sox counted three times in the fifth.

After the Indians pulled within one run at 4-3, the Red Sox scored three runs in the eighth. Miller drove in one with a single and circled the bases when his hit went through Rick Manning in center field for an error. [The Sporting News]
