Held to three hits in the first six innings, the Red Sox suddenly exploded for eight runs in the seventh to defeat the Brewers, 9-4. Jim Colborn, who started for the Brewers, went into the inning with a 3-1 lead but was kayoed when Carlton Fisk led off with a double and Bernie Carbo singled.

Eduardo Rodriguez, in relief, passed two batters, forcing in a run, and two others scored on a sacrifice fly by Fred Lynn and single by Rick Burleson. That brought on Ray Sadecki, who was greeted with a three-run homer by pinch-hitter Jim Rice. With two out, Carl Yastrzemski walked and Fisk, up for a second time, also homered to complete the onslaught. [The Sporting News]
