A wild pitch by Al Hrabosky in the 11th inning allowed two runs to score and enabled the Giants to defeat the Cardinals, 2-0, behind the combined four-hit hurling of Mike Caldwell and Gary Lavelle. Bobby Murcer singled in the decisive stanza and stopped at third on a double by Gary Matthews. Hrabosky followed with his wild pitch that catcher Ted Simmons was unable to locate in time to prevent both Murcer and Matthews from scoring.
