A wild throw by Bert Campaneris in the 12th inning allowed two runs to score and enabled the Rangers to defeat the Athletics, 6-4. Lenny Randle was on second base with one out when Mike Hargrove bounced to pitcher Jim Todd. While Randle was hung up in a rundown, Hargrove reached second. Campaneris then fired to third in an effort to nail Randle, but his throw eluded Sal Bando and both Randle and Hargrove scored on the error.
