. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Indians failed to pull off an attempted double steal in the ninth inning and, as a result, lost to the Yankees, 3-2. Otto Velez, celebrating the birth of his first son, hit his first homer of the season to pace the Yankees to a 3-0 lead before the Indians began the ninth with a round-tripper by Larvell Blanks. Buddy Bell walked and scored the second run on a double by Rico Carty.

After an infield out advanced pinch-runner Duane Kuiper to third, pinch-hitter Frank Robinson walked. Ron Pruitt struck out. Robinson then initiated an attempted double steal, starting for second and drawing a throw from catcher Rick Dempsey, but second baseman Sandy Alomar's return throw to the plate caught Kuiper attempting to score.
