The Padres' Randy Jones became the majors' first eight-game winner with a snappy 4-2 victory over the Reds. The Padres scored four in the first inning when Tito Fuentes walked, Willie Davis singled and stole second, Willie McCovey was intentionally walked and Dave Winfield hit his second grand slam of the season.
