A throwing error by Dave Giusti on a pickoff attempt at second base enabled the Cubs to score the deciding run in a 6-5 victory over the Pirates in the opening game of a doubleheader. Al Oliver and Bill Robinson hit two-run homers and winning pitcher Jerry Reuss delivered a two-run triple as the Pirates won the second game, 9-1. [The Sporting News]
