Darrel Chaney's third hit of the game, a bases-loaded, two-run double in the ninth, gave the Braves a 4-3 win over the Reds. Cincinnati had tallied two in the eighth for a 3-2 edge on a double by Ken Griffey and Tony Perez' sacrifice fly.

Gary Nolan blanked the Braves on two hits for seven innings, but was forced out with a twisted knee. Reliever Rawly Eastwick took the loss. Andy Messersmith worked seven innings for Atlanta, yielding five hits and two runs, one earned. [The Sporting News]
