Erupting for six runs in the second inning, the Phillies defeated the Expos, 10-3. Bobby Tolan walked and Jay Johnstone doubled to start the stanza. Tolan was out at the plate on a grounder by Garry Maddox, but Dick Allen doubled to drive in Johnstone.

The Expos passed Bob Boone intentionally to get at Tom Underwood, who upset the apple cart with a single for another tally. Dave Cash singled to account for two runs, Mike Schmidt singled for the fifth run of the frame and the sixth counted on an error. [The Sporting News]
