In addition to stopping Ron LeFlore's 30-game hitting streak, the Yankees smashed three homers in one inning and defeated the Tigers, 9-5. In the fourth inning, after Vern Ruhle had retired the first nine batters, the Yankees took aim at the Tigers' hurler with circuit clouts by Mickey Rivers, Thurman Munson and Chris Chambliss, all within a span of eight pitches.
