Hal McRae, who was nicked by Jim Slaton in the fourth, scored one of the Royals' initial tallies of the game. After the contest went into overtime, John Mayberry was hit by a pitch in the 10th and raced home with the winning run on a double by McRae to bring Dennis Leonard his fifth straight victory.
