Cutting off a Phillies' rally in the ninth inning, Charlie Hough saved the victory for Burt Hooton as the Dodgers defeated the Phillies, 3-2. Hooton allowed only two hits in the first eight innings, but both runners were erased on double plays.

However in the ninth, Tim McCarver hit a two-out pinch-double and two batters walked to load the bases. Mike Schmidt singled, driving in two runs, before Hough took over for Hooton. After walking Greg Luzinski, Hough retired Dick Allen to end the game. [The Sporting News]
