Andy Messersmith drove in two runs and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning while leading the Braves to a 5-2 decision over the Cardinals. The Cardinals ended Messersmith's string of 22 scoreless innings when they scored in the fifth when hot-hitting Mike Tyson doubled and came home on Jerry Mumphrey's single. This was third straight triumph for Messersmith, who had shut out the Expos and Cubs in his last two starts. [The Sporting News]
