Victims of a two-run rally in the ninth inning, the Royals were stopped on their seven-game winning streak by the Tigers, 4-3. Dan Meyer opened the frame with a single, advanced to second after Rusty Staub flied out and scored on a single by Alex Johnson to tie the score at 3-3. Johnson then stole second and, after an intentional pass to Aurelio Rodriguez, Mickey Stanley batted for Bruce Kimm and singled to drive in the Tigers' winning run. [The Sporting News]
