Nolan Ryan struck out 15 batters for his season's high and Bob Jones, Angels' rookie outfielder, hit the first two homers of his major league career to feature a 5-3 victory over the Red Sox. Ryan struck out every Red Sox batter at least once, except for Denny Doyle.

Jones drove in four runs, hitting each of his homers with a man on base. Bobby Bonds also hit for the circuit, marking the first time that the Angels had come up with three homers in one game since May 15. [The Sporting News]
