The Angels squeezed out a 2-1 triumph over the Twins in 10 innings in a game played under protest by the Twins. Bob Jones, Dave Chalk and pinch-hitter Bill Melton linked successive singles in the 10th to make a winner of Gary Ross, who scattered eight hits. The Twins' protest came in the fourth when Rod Carew was ruled out on an appeal play for failure to touch second. The Twins argued the ball was dead when Bruce Bochte's throw from left field, trying to double up Carew, carried into the dugout. [The Sporting News] |
