Dandy Randy Jones tied Christy Mathewson's 63-year-old National League record of 68 consecutive innings without allowing a walk as the Padres' star lefthander defeated the Giants, 4-2. However, Jones' walkless string came to an end after tying Mathewson when Marc Hill drew a pass for the Giants to open the seventh inning. Tito Fuentes won the game for Jones by smashing a 2-2 tie with a homer in the Padres' half of the seventh after Jones had reached base on a single. [The Sporting News]
