With the Orioles on the brink of defeat, Bobby Grich hit a two-out, two-run homer in the 10th inning to beat the Red Sox, 3-2. The Orioles scored their initial run in the first on a single by Paul Blair, a sacrifice and double by Reggie Jackson.

Jim Rice homered for the Red Sox in the second and then put them ahead again with another circuit clout in the 10th. However in the Orioles' half, Tony Muser batted for Paul Blair and singled before Grich smashed his winning homer. [The Sporting News]
