After failing to hold a 4-0 lead, Philadelphia came back to defeat the Reds, 5-4, scoring their deciding run on a pinch-single by Ollie Brown in the seventh inning. Garry Maddox and Dick Allen homered for the Phillies to help build up their lead, but the Reds rallied to tie the score in the sixth with three of their markers coming on Johnny Bench's first homer since May 28. However in the seventh, Allen doubled, stopped at third on another double by Jay Johnstone and scored on Brown's pinch-single. [The Sporting News]
