Rod Carew, who is in his 10th season with the Twins, winning five A. L. batting championships, smashed the first grand-slam homer of his major league career to feature an 11-3 rout of the Athletics. Carew, who hit his jackpot wallop in the second inning, also drove in another run with a double and added a single to give him three hits in five trips, raising his average to .327.
