Handed an eight-run lead in the first inning, John Candelaria easily pitched the Pirates to a 10-1 victory, holding the Cubs to three hits. The Pirates combined two walks, two errors, five hits, a passed ball and a double steal on which Al Oliver scored in their big inning. Candelaria joined in the spree with a two-run triple.
