After scoring four runs in the first inning, the Yankees failed to hold the lead and lost to the Tigers, 7-5. The Tigers chopped the Yankees' margin to one run before Chris Chambliss made it 5-3 with a homer in the seventh.

However, in the Tigers' half, Ron LeFlore knocked in two runs with a triple to tie the score and then counted the leading run on a single by Tom Veryzer. Rusty Staub iced the cake with a homer in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
