. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Mark Fidrych, Tigers' rookie sensation, pitched the first shutout of his major league career and raised his record to 9-1 by defeating the Orioles, 4-0, before a crowd of 51,032, second largest turnout of the season in Detroit. Rusty Staub started the 21-year-old righthander on his way to triumph by smashing a homer with two men on base in the first inning. Jason Thompson accounted for the other run with a circuit clout in the fourth. [The Sporting News]
