Cecil Cooper, who has been a hitting terror against the Brewers this season, batting .520 (13-for-25), smashed a two-run homer and a single in three trips to lead the Red Sox to a 3-1 victory. The Red Sox scored in the first inning on a walk to Cooper and double by Fred Lynn, but the Brewers came back with their lone tally in the home half on a double by George Scott, a walk and single by Mike Hegan.
