The Braves, who had lost six previous meetings between the clubs, rallied for seven runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Pirates, 8-6, before 48,467. John Candelaria, working with a 6-1 lead, had two out in the eighth when the Braves started their rally with a single by Rowland Office, two walks and a two-run single by Willie Montanez.

Kent Tekulve relieved and walked Ken Henderson before yielding to Ramon Hernandez, who gave up a two-run single by Cito Gaston. That brought on Bob Moose, who passed Jerry Royster. Darrel Chaney then cleared the sacks with a triple to bring the Braves their victory. [The Sporting News]
