Enjoying their biggest inning of the season so far, the Cardinals scored seven runs in the first and went on to defeat the Giants, 13-7. Ed Halicki, who started for the Giants, was kayoed without retiring a batter. Ted Simmons and Hector Cruz each hit two-run singles. Willie Crawford homered in the fourth for what proved to be the deciding run before the Cardinals erupted for three more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
